As per the subject. I've used it for sometime, and kind of gravitated towards it as a real time alternative to ST after the problems with ST 2.5x

Hi...
Concerning free AV's, I think it's a decent program, although others have better detection rates. I appreciate that it is completely ad free, possibly the only free AV that offers this. Also, it's FP rate is pretty low as well. The only issue that I think all AV's need improvement on is the detection of rogue AV's.

Guys that is what I'm thinking as well. And with a little registry tweaking you can get it to check for updates at shorter intervals than the standard 24 hour interval.

With all of MSE's good features I wonder why it is not voted as the number one AV: http://www.devduff.com/software/top-ten-antivirus-2011.php

Well I'll take a guess by saying if you look at the site it is skewed towards making money selling AV software.
Added to that I would not rate this site as being authoritative on the subject given the following pronouncement by the author
Dev Duff from the Site wrote:"Microsoft Security Essentials is a new software and I think it is free. I wouldn’t trust anything “free” because there is always some catch in the so called “free software”. Go with the BitDefender security. The antivirus is just $29.95 and the complete security package is just $39.95 for 1 year subscription. I think it is pretty cheap. Think, should you risk your personal data and information to save that little amount? Just my opinion."
Well I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion :D

Well it would be good to see it on your list but I think it would be at odds with the content of your site which is a blatant attempt to sell software.
Nice try.

I do not much care for MSE, their detection rates are mediocre, self-protection is non-existant, and it is about the slowest/heaviest of all anti-virus products.

Blatant attempt to sell software? Sardin, have you ever heard for affiliate marketing? I have put to test 30 antivirus softwares and you are teling me that I don't know how this software works because I'm seling them? Give me a break! Hehehehe...

Not getting into an argument over this and yes I respect your choice to use your site for affiliate marketing, no issue there. I've not visited your site since my first post but at that time I remember seeing only "commercial" versions tested. In my opinion, and I'm not denying you of yours, your site is not balanced in its approach to be an authoritative reference if indeed it does not cover the many very good "free" alternatives.
All the best with your affiliate marketing endeavours :D

I've been using MSE for a while now, no infections.
Scans with Mbam & SAS don't find anything.
Updates well.
I highly recommend MSE.
